Digital Channel Monitor -  Models 9314, 9316 and 9318

 

Digital Channel Monitors from Opterna AM utilize DOCSIS technology to continuously monitor analog signal levels and digital service quality across the entire HFC system. Placed at multiple locations throughout the HFC path, Digital Channel Monitors enable the cable operator to quickly and remotely monitor service availability and isolate system impairments. 

 

With the Model 9314, RF level and critical signal parameters such as SNR and packet error counters are reported for the monitored DOCSIS channel, providing a simple means of continuously assessing the DOCSIS channel performance in both the analog and digital domains.
 
The Model 9316 features all the capabilities of the Model 9314 with the added ability to monitor the RF levels of all channels, or a user-defined subset of the HFC channel plan. An upstream test signal is available to aid in the diagnosis of the return path.
 
The Model 9318 features all the capabilities of the Model 9316 plus MER and BER measurement capability on the digital channels.
 
With the addition of AM’s Digital Service Quality Firmware upgrade, the Digital Channel Monitor becomes a remote IP probe in the HFC network, performing RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) IP loopback tests in conjunction with a Tektronix PowerProbe test platform. A comprehensive suite of VoIP speech quality and IP network performance metrics are reported, including MOS, R factor, packet jitter, packet loss and discard rate, and round-trip delay.
 

Digital Channel Monitors from Opterna AM provide a cost-effective way to continuously monitor service quality, highlighting potential problem areas that warrant further investigation by service personnel.
